Still under construction

As far as knowing at what stage I'm at in completion of my first maquette, I have absolutely no idea. Ive just finished applying the spines and a single layer of masking tape to cover the entire body. For the spines I used card stock paper, wire, and masking tape to secure it into place. The next step is to create some "chest plate" scales underneath his neck. Ill be crating them from sculpty, which is what I used for the head. Its coming together nicely so far. All that's left to do is keep going.

cabbage head study

Painted on acrylics on cardboard.I haven't painted a still life for some time now. It was really fun painting the way the light reflected off the purple toned texture of the leaves. Fun stuff. I know cardboard isn't what you'd call the most professional but for some reason I just love it!.

Submission to spectrum

Well, Its a long shot but I thought it through enough to send in my first submission into spectrum this year. Ive been able to experiment more with this pieces through the usual mediums Ive used in the past through the use of my sketchbook but never have I used them for a completed piece for my portfolio. I'm happy with the direction I was able to take it. I hope to continue to find more ways to develop this strange and unusual style of mine.

Got some new projects on the go

Well its been a while since I wrote about anything. But better late then never they say. I'm currently putting together my first maquette for a dragon piece that id like to paint. Ive never made a dragon specifically for painting so its a whole new process for me. The trick is to put in a couple of hours everyday. And not worry about it looking perfect. It was Euge'ne Delacroix that once said "Artists who seek perfection in everything are those who cannot attain it in anything"

Ill be taking photos of this process and document it carefully to hold myself more accountable.

Update for the end of this month

Well its look like the holidays are around the corner and man have I got so many things I want to complete. my list of things to steadly rises all the time. I feel as though I never have the time of day to complete the tasks I set out for myself. Keeping yourself accountable is hard work but I know if I work on the little things the bigger things are bound to follow.

Ive got a few x-mas gift ideas and comissions im working on right now. Im starting up my pet portrait gig again for the holidays. I figuered it would be a good way to get my work out there as well as have the little job on the side. ( like i dont have enough to keep me busy)

Next in my list of things to do is contact every independent interior desinger and decorator in the fraser valley about using my painting skills for possible murals that could be done within private homes or public spaces. My list is growing everyday, once I have enough ill make the contacts and then go from there. You can view my murals on Http://AprilSolomon.myartchannel.com

Im also getting ready for an art show known as the "Wings Exhibit" that well be held on Jan 18th till Feb11th in 2009 at the kariton gallery 2387 Ware st in Abbotsford. If your looking for something to do come check out my work and many other artists at the art show.

Well thats about it for now. If I keep to my goals for the weeks to come hopefully ill feel as if ive made some progress. Next thing is ill have to check out some publishers to get some work for companys to produce illustrations. dont worry ill keep you all posted, wish me luck.
